Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) clinic is a speciality clinic intended to take care and treat patients suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. This clinic is running once weekly on every Tuesday with state of the art facilities which comprises not only doctor consultation but also undertaking disease awareness classes, lifestyle modification programs, physiotherapy sessions etc.
Ankylosing spondylitis is a form of arthritis that primarily affects your spine. It causes severe inflammation of the vertebrae that might eventually lead to chronic pain and disability. AS has no cure, but medicines can relieve symptoms and may keep the disease from getting worse. The cause of ankylosing spondylitis is currently unknown. The disorder does tend to run in families, so genetics probably play a role. If your parents or siblings have ankylosing spondylitis, research estimates you’re 10 to 20 times more likely to have it than someone with no family history. It often appear in younger adults between ages 20 and 40 and three times more common in males than females. Early diagnosis and treatment can delay the progression . Eating a healthy diet, not smoking, and exercising can also help.
The main objective of this clinic is to ensure maximum medical attention and care to AS patients so that they can achieve remission of disease and can improve quality of life in the most cost effective manner.
The BASDAI consists of 10cm visual analog scales used to answer 6 questions pertaining to the 5 major symptoms of AS: SCORE OF >4 INDICATES ACTIVE DISEASE
